Frequently asked questions

COCOA TALK

Where is the chocolate made?

Our chocolate is made in Canada.

Where is your cocoa grown?

Africa and Dominican Republic

What makes Theobroma's chocolates special?

We craft premium chocolates using the finest, ethically sourced ingredients. Our commitment to quality and artistry ensures a truly exceptional chocolate experience. And we don’t add fillers or emulsifiers.

Are your chocolates made with Fairtrade certified cocoa?

Yes! All of our products are Fairtrade certified.

Do we have our chocolate tested for lead and cadmium?

Yes. Food safety and quality are among our highest priorities.

The cocoa beans used in our Fairtrade and Organic chocolate products are sourced from the Dominican Republic. All of our raw materials are processed in Belgium, where strict food safety standards require thorough testing before ingredients are shipped to Canada.

Because cocoa naturally contains trace amounts of elements such as cadmium, our products are regularly tested and consistently remain well below the limits established by both European Union and U.S. regulations, including California Proposition 65 (Prop 65) guidelines.

You can enjoy Galerie au Chocolat products with confidence, knowing they meet some of the world's most stringent food safety standards.

BEHIND OUR PRODUCTS

I see a white coating on my chocolate. What is it?

That's called "blooming," a natural occurrence where sugar crystals rise to the surface of the chocolate. While it may alter the appearance, it doesn't affect the chocolate's safety or taste.

Do you use sustainably sourced cocoa?

Yes, all our cocoa is sustainably and ethically sourced.

How should I store your chocolate?

To keep your chocolate as fresh as possible, keep it in a cool, dry place. Keeping your chocolate in the fridge or freezer is OK (let’s be real – frozen chocolate is tasty) if you are only storing it for a day or two, but try to keep it in a drawer or compartment that blocks out excess moisture to avoid blooming (crystallization and streaking).

Does the chocolate contain sugar?

Yes, our standard chocolates contain sugar. However, we offer a dedicated sugar-free line for those seeking alternatives.

Is your chocolate gluten free?

Products that are manufactured with gluten are done so according to segregation methods specific to their production.

Strict control measures and procedures are in place to manage and avoid cross-contamination.

What are the internal wrappers of the chocolate bars made of?

We currently use a foil wrapping on our product to protect the chocolate and avoid blooming, however we are in the process of transitioning to a compostable wrapper.

Does your chocolate contain soy?

Our Fairtrade chocolate range is a SOY-free production, these products are manufactured according to a special production with segregation methods specific to their production. Strict control measures and procedures are in place to manage and avoid cross-contamination.

Products made with regular chocolate contain or may contain soy.

We recommend that you read the list of ingredients and label declarations on the back of the product labels.

What allergens are contained in your product?

Our products are processed in a peanut-free factory. Strict control measures and procedures are in place to manage and avoid cross-contamination.

Our products contain or may contain: MILK. NUTS.
