Theobroma. From the Greek - Theos, god. Broma, food: food of the gods. All great chocolate starts with the Theobroma Cacao tree, named by 18th century taxonomist, C. Linnaeus, in 1735. From the tree, cocoa pods filled with beans grow, which are later dried, fermented, and roasted before being transformed into that beloved bitter or sweet treat (chocolate). Long before chocolate became an everyday craving, cacao was seen as something rare and meaningful, something worth slowing down for.
